feast and famine

We are back home after a whirlwind Thanksgiving.  We had SO much fun with our stand-in NC family!  We ate like kings.  The kids played HARD!  The grown-ups got all our shopping done and lots of visiting in:)  Asheville was amazing.  It was good...really good!

I'm kind of exhausted to tell ya the truth.  Been traveling ALOT lately, so I'm condensing the pics into a couple of's a snippet of our weekend.  It's a mix of Thanksgiving yumminess, the Biltmore Mansion in all it's grandeur, and a hike to Triple Falls...where the Hunger Games was filmed!

The trip was full of lots of things to be thankful for, but it also had a couple hiccup moments.  We got a speeding ticket on the way to the Hutchinson's house.  SO not cool.  It was a speed trap.  The cop was sitting at the bottom of a steep hill and our cruise was on and...well you know how that isn't the most accurate at keeping your speed on a hill.  We got nailed:(

Then when we got home there was another unfortunate surprise.  The shipment with my cuff supplies came in the mail and the package was completely EMPTY!!  This has happened before:/  Apparently we have a thief at our post office!!  Anyway it was not a happy moment for me and I have to admit it completely stole my joy...for more than a day.  Grrrrrrrrr.  It didn't get resolved.  I had to repay to get the order resent, and for my small business that stung...aLOT!

So this morning when I flipped open my Jesus Calling devotional by Sarah Young and these words popped out at me, it was apparent the Lord was trying to get my attention.  My Thanksgiving to Him is a sacrifice.  Praising Him and keeping focused on the good things...the blessings in my life are an offering.  I'd never really thought of it that way before.

Our hearts have to be protected because this world is full of disappointments.  Every day will have it's unforeseen challenges and we have to make a concentrated effort to not let those things distract us from all the good we have.  Because WE ARE BLESSED!!!!  So so sooooo blessed!  I needed that reminder.

Be a blessing.

In case you missed it...Alicia's cute shop is only open until December 15th.  She's offering 20% off if you use FARMGIRL20 in the coupon code.  Bop over there.  Super cute stuff!!!

  1. Sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving! And I remember your cuff order getting stolen last year...ugh! That really stinks! You should talk to the post office about it!

  2. I still think it's super weird that this would happen twice! I would definately raise a stink at the PO!! Bummer you had to pay twice, but at least it wasn't something irreplaceable.

  3. I so needed this post today! A gentle reminder to find JOY when things are gray. I am so sorry to hear about the ticket and the stolen items. I have had things stolen from the post office too. I totally love that shawl~what a gorgeous color. I have Jesus Calling, I really need to sit and reflect and THANK the Lord!

  4. What fun that must have been the Biltmore must have been amazing, bummer about your delivery, at least it was replaceable.
    Have a great day!

  5. Thanks for the reminder that thankfulness is our protection in this sinful world. I need to get Jesus Calling (Tara suggested it too). Sorry to hear that the PO has a thief...definately bring it to their attention (you probably already did) so they can investigate. I love Asheville too!

  6. I just love you and all you are about!

  7. LOVE seeing pictures of your visit with Lish- what a sweet sweet Thanksgiving!
Those speed traps are such a booger! The SAME exact situation happened to me on my way to the FArm Chicks show- I was going down a hill too. Grrrr.
And that whole empty package thing is SUPER frustrating and weird! Seems like something should be done!!! I can imagine how having to pay twice can hurt. So I feel your Grrrrr for you!
But you have such a great attitude! :)

  8. I'm glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Sorry about your supplies getting stolen though. I would definitely complain to the post office if you haven't yet. Hope the week continues to look up for you.

  9. I'm so happy that you had a wonderful trip.
I'm sorry that you had a theft.
I'm sending warm hugs your way and praying you find rest and relaxation this week.

  10. Sounds so fun and exhausting! Welcome home :-) Love the pics!

  11. OH, how unfortunate and it's so hard not to let things like that steal our joy. I read that same devotional this morning. I love, love Jesus Calling!

What great pics and looks like a fun, fun time, minus the ticket.

Hope you can slow down, get back on track and enjoy the holiday season. Hugs!

  12. I'm glad you choose happiness in the face of troubles. We are promised troubles in this world. Happiness is our choice, or not. Love the pics. Love that you ate like Kings. :)

  13. So glad you wre able to enjoy your family and friends for Thanksgiving. Hiccups in life are not fun but thank you for your honesty in sharing them and helping us all learn the lessons that are in them. xoxo

  14. amazing how our perspective and His Truth can totally melt away our struggles and burdens!
i love this(not your package getting stolen, but the lesson He gave you from it happening). :)
and i love alicia's sweet little baby bump!!!!!
    how exciting!

  15. I'm so very sorry about your package! It is amazing, though, how perfectly timed words can cut us to the quick and nudge us in the direction we need to go. Thankfulness makes me think of your list (I'm assuming that's based on 1000 Gifts), and how that leads to joy. A good reminder for me (I complain a lot).

  16. SO not cool that your supplies got stolen. So sorry for you friend. Chin up. Hugs.

  17. i was going to say i thought i remember hearing your cuff stuff was stolen before. that is so weird and fishy. i am so sorry. somehow, some way, God has got it covered. glad those words in the devo calmed your spirit. love the pics of you and alicia's fam. love!

  18. Sounds like you had a fabulous trip, minus the ticket. I'm so sorry about the theft of your supplies ~ not good. :( I strongly recommend that you file a complaint with the U.S. Postal Service. This person should be stopped! To take your items twice is horrid and there's not telling what else they are taking. We do have to speak up!

I just placed an order with Alicia. :)

  19. oh girl..I HEAR you! we are so so so blessed. I am seeing that so much lately and I am ever more humbled by His love for us inspite of ourselves. I am so sorry to hear about the order..that sucks! Life is HARD for sure.
I loved seeing that on IG this moved me too. thankful you shared. I loved watching your life unfold..I am blessed and thankful for you and all the new friends I am meeting. Thank you for being real...even the stinky stuff. We ALL stink sometimes:) get some good rest...get back at the gym and things will turn little!

  20. I am sorry that your supplies went missing, but glad you found your thankfulness in the hard things.

Our neighborhood once had a postman that was stealing money out of any envelope that looked celebratory. We contacted the post and they set up a sting and he got caught.

  21. I so love it when what you write is exactly what I need to hear. I'm sorry that you (and I) must go through some of these unfortunate happenings to remind us of how little control we actually do have and how much we need to relinquish ourselves over to our Lord. It's so nice to know that no matter what, God loves us the same every day.
    God is so good.

  22. love you and your God-centered perspective. you are so much joy.

  23. Looks like you had a great time! We have never taken the time to explore Ashville, but sure hope to some day. Sorry you had some setbacks, but thanks for the heart of thankfulness that shines above it all!

  24. Feeling so sad over missing you in phone tag and busy-ness. just came by to say hi and tell you that. We need a vacation. Ha!

  25. Our family too had such a wonderful 5 days with family and friends. I am still trying to recooperate like yourself. You mentioned, Sarah Youngs Devotional and I just had to tell you that I loved it so much last year, that I bought both of my girls one for christmas this year. God bless, Laurie

  26. Guard your's the wellspring of life. I've always loved that and the image it creates in my head. Your post made me think of it. Glad you had a great Thanksgiving! We were just in MN & had fun.

  27. Looks like a beautiful trip!

I'm jealous that you have all
of your shopping done. I still
have a long way to go, although
I did get a good start with your

    Love ya, girlie.
