A wishful day

I've always loved Thanksgiving. The decision to stay at home alone this year was a sacrifice. I love being with all of my people on that day, so I was a little emotional and homesick. As I was fixing our big feast I had some sad Christmas music on and got all teary eyed. My peeps were playing in the basement and when they finally came up to see what I was doing, I had to inform them to stay close...mama was needy today:)

This is our wishbone from the turkey. As we all made our special wishes...Little Chick piped in and said she wished Grandpa was alive...SOB! What do you say to that?? Oh the innocence of babes.

dinner we decided we HAD to take a walk. It was pretty cold, so we really bundled up. I'm a fast walker. It's just in my genes I guess to out walk everyone by at least 10 paces. I have to really make a concentrated effort to walk with people. Didn't know that about me did ya?? I took my camera...couldn't pass up taking pics of nature. Another beautiful sunset... thank you Lord.

After the walk I took a coma know the kind of exhausted, stuffed belly nap where you could sleep and lose all track of time. That was me. Honey was watching football of course:) Afterwards we kept our word to the Chicks and put up the tree. It was a challenge, because neither of us had an ounce of energy. Good thing the girls had enough for all of us:) These are just a few of my favorite Christmas things. I think I have a little thing for snowmen:) So how was your day? Did you eat too much? I know I did!!!

Have a blessed day.

  1. Great post and wonderful pictures... Kids seem to have the knack of keeping us all on track (even when we don't think we have the energy). I'm right with Little Chick - we lost two grandparents this past year and wishing they were here just confirms that they are missed and they left such wonderful memories. Many blessings to you today and always!

  2. That was a nice post and nice pictures!
We had my family here, it was nice. My kids are teenagers now, but it is still so sweet to hear what they say. Even when they think they know everything, every now and then, something so innocent will come out!
We do not put up our tree for another week or two! I'm always afraid it will dry out too much! Have a nice weekend!

  3. Love the pictures from your walk! Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. I am so glad that I am not the only one with a snowman fetish!
I love your shots Becky ~ they are gorgeous. We have a real tree so will only put it up a couple of weeks before Christmas.
I know it is hard being away from family but you were surrounded by your peeps and it sounds like you had a wonderful day. Gulp and double gulp about little chick's comment! ((Hugs))

  5. Had to laugh because I had a COMA NAP/SLEEP this weekend...
Taking a few hours to read some favorite of my favorite things to do and something I have done very little of in recent days. I have some wonderful families featured on my holiday blog...

  6. sounds like a lovely day. we also were alone this thanksgiving and it was very lonely indeed...but what i enjoyed the most was the simplicity of it.

  7. Wah!, indeed! I've been extra emotional this week, too. Gosh darnit. Your tree looks lovely! Mine is up but not decorated yet, and yes, we stuffed ourselves silly...and I'm making my own turkey today so let the eating begin again!

  8. I did not get to take a nap...which I probably should have done to prepare for black friday ;) We had a wonderful day...busy, but wonderful.

I'm so glad you had a happy thanksgiving and that you got out for a walk too. (beautiful pictures).

Oh and love that owl in your Christmas pics.

P.S. I am soooo proud of you for running 5 miles the other day! I need some of your motivation quick!!

  9. I'm a really fast walker too... I love to walk. I could walk three to five miles every day if I had the free time! Sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I'm emailing you right now about mine. :)

  10. I love all of your pictures! The sunflower on the side of the blog is bright and cheery too! :)

  12. It sounds like a great Thanksgiving! I love naps!

  13. I love all your photos!!! It sounds like a great day..especially the nap. Counting down the days until you open your shop:-)

  14. Sounds like a great day to me! Naps are the best. Good for you to get your tree up already. I was planning on doing it today, didn't happen. Hopefully I will get to it tomorrow.

  15. Pretty photos!! I also walk a good ten paces in front of everyone, it's so true that I have to think about it to walk with people! Sounds like you had a good, intimate, thanksgiving!

  16. Great photos!

Hope you are rested up and ready to tackle the next few weeks.

  17. I have felt lonely when we were alone on Thanksgiving too. Remembering times when you weren't. But there is something so special about having your "own" day. Simple, not rushed ~ it looks like you had a beautiful day. Dinner, a gorgeous walk enjoying the gifts of the earth, a nap & and decorating with your chicks! You are very blessed.

Your decorating looks so warm, cozy and inviting.... love your snowmen! ~cheryl

  18. I was so tired after cooking that I didn't eat too much on Thanksgiving, but I've made up for it with the left over cheesecake and pumpkin pie!

    Love your pictures!

  19. Lost my mom this year, so I was quite emotional too on two girls helped me keep it together. Love all your photos! And I must have that same "thing" for snow "people",too, because I've been collecting them for years!

    Work From Home

  22. I love your collages...very cute! I like reindeer as much as you like snowmen. They are my Christmas 'theme'.

Walking is great, and with the camera along...priceless. Especially after a big meal. I like to walk fast too. I think I walk faster than I run...HA!!

  23. Wow that must have been a tough decision to stay home :( I had a fantastic Thanksgiving this year, I would love to blog about it but you know who might read it...We spent the entire day with MY family and the inlaws went to TX to be with their daughter and her family!! So I was very blessed and stress free for once!!! And you know I had those missing my dad moments but I was very thankful to have the rest of my family with me..

Thanks for taking a minute to share your thoughts. I love hearing what YOU have to say:)
