Do it anyway!

I'm not sure if I've mentioned before how much I HATE running outside. Seriously it's like some sort of torture. I have a million excuses. I have asthma. I can't pace myself. It makes my feet hurt. But truth be told it kicks butt in the exercise department. I ran for 45 minutes and burned almost 500 calories!

They've just built a beautiful new road this summer super close to my house and it has a wonderful paved path and gorgeous views of trees and so it's been beckoning me to try it. But you know I have all those lovely excuses that I mentioned before and I've always said no, until...TODAY!

you can see it was hard!! I wear a heart rate monitor and you would think that would help with the pacing part, but I seriously can't run slow outside. I try so hard.... Finally when my heart rate gets to 195 or so and is about to jump out of my chest, I have to stop and walk. At the gym I can run 3 miles easily without stopping. Why is it so much harder outside?? Anyway I DID IT! Little Chick rode her bike with me and even though it was hard it was fun. I loved being outside taking in our beautiful weather while we still have it.

I've been reading about Rhonna's 21 day challenge on several different blogs, so I checked it out and it sounds wonderful. I'm a little late getting started, but that's ok. I'm up for a challenge. I have some habits I'd like to break and some new ones I'd like to form. So for the next 21 days I'm going to:

1.) Run 3 miles outside or inside depending on the weather.

2.) Resist sugar.

3.) Avoid diet soda.

4.) Create something everyday.

5.) Read my bible everyday.

So my question for you is...what excuses have you been making? What is it that you need to push yourself toward...CONQUER?? If you feel up to it join me in the 21 day challenge. Maybe we can make some new habits together.

Have a blessed day.

  1. I love this!
Oh gosh I have so many things I want to do but number oe is to exercise EVERYDAY ~
I have been doing good in that Dept but find myself begging God sometimes for strength to do it and I end up offering it up to Him.
I know how essential it is to take care of Me... but tend to always put myself at the bottom of a long list
    Great job running!
I have to check out that blog!

  2. You GO girl!!! Well done!!

We are on the same page....I am full of excuses right now and need to make some changes. You have inspired me to do the 21 day challenge.....I need to.....will write my list and let you know :)

    Thanks for the inspiration!

PS Any tips on how to look as cute as you when I run!? ;)

  3. Congratulations!!! You just conquered the hardest part...beginning!!!
I'll join you on a few things I'd like to do too!
    Many Blessings!

  4. Thanks for the link, gotta check this out.

  5. 'Atta girl!!
Great minds and all that, eh? I just posted this morning on FB, "You don't have to 'want to' to get it done"
    Run! Run! Run! Go, Becky!!

  6. GREAT JOB! I so hear you about running outside. Ick. I make myself do it and after I'm done I'm happy I did, most of the time ;) But seriously, I feel like 3 miles is so much longer outside and I have no clue why. If you figure this out, please let me know!

Also, I love this challenge. I need to step up and do it myself. Keep doing your best. I know you'll be so happy you have met your challenge when you are done :)

  7. You are so inspiring, girl! And I love the "Happy Runner" pics. :)

  8. Good for you!

I agree that running outside is harder than running on a treadmill.

Uneven terrain. Hills. The mental challenge of getting out of the house.

And your post reminds me that.

Before I get some Blue Bell.

    Homemade Vanilla.

    Out of the freezer.

    I must run FIVE miles.

    By myself.

Running buds got it over with this morning.

    Sweet dreams.

  9. Good for you! I've been fixin' to get back to doing my heavy duty walk workouts. Then today, whilst visiting with someone at their garage sale...I saw a plastc grocery bag make a run for the I made a run for it...stepped on it then rolled my ankle and my entire me in the middle of the street...with all of the garage sailers looking on...I am just so talented in this department. I'm now sofa-bound...nursing/icing my big fat sprained foot. Ugh! God knows what I need to get done. Maybe now I will actually finish the official website for my shop...and the design plan for my new shop building. Those are important goals for my mom and me. I'm happy for you with your goals! You can do it!

    : )

ps Resisting diet pop is definitely a good thing. I quit cold turkey 2 1/2 years ago.

  10. 21 days, I'll try it! I have recently started exercising for my shoulder, you notice I did not say for me.. But being inspired by your story, I think I can do it and 21 days is only 3 weeks,,,everyday, I'll do some sort of exercise! I have to clear my mind and maybe this will help.
Resisting sugar, that will have start another day!

  11. inspire and impress me. I was so good all summer long with my that I am back to is hard to fit it in but I am trying to walk to school more often. My challenge would be no sugar. I will go check out the link! Thanks and I know you can do it....I love love your running are way too cute!

  12. Im am with you on that! I hate hate HATE walking. Walking just gets on my nerves so much. I do not know why. Well I am a kid so I don't run but my mom wants me to walk with her but I just hate to. I love riding my bike though. Anyway hope you have a great day!

    Love, Madison

  13. Okay I'm in! I just went over and committed. I needed this boost and glad to be a part of it!!

  14. Wow! Good for you!!!

I hate running outside because I somehow always get a wedgie, and I tend to fall on my face! LOL!!

  15. WTG!! I hate running outside too...I like the outside part, but like you I can't pace myself very well & it seems a million times harder then on a treadmill.

    Happy Saturday SITS Sharfest!

  16. Excellent! I'd wish you luck...I do....but you won't need it. I can tell. :O) x

  17. i'm working on some of those same goals right's so helpful to be part of a group for the support and the accountability.
    good can do it!

you know what is funny....i LOVE to run outside and hate running inside.
on every run outside, i receive some sort of "blessing" from nature~ seeing an amazing sunset, a pretty bird, ...
next time you run~look around for these blessings and you may find the run easier.

  18. Um Im the weirdo who loves to run!! haha! I think the reason it is harder to run outside is the impact and push forward when your foot rolls, on a treadmill it just kinda takes you there on its own. Your workin harder!! Also with the pace thing, I set my pace to my music, you can buy cds that have cardio counts and the music is fun!! I would google workout music. Itll help you if you step to the beat. Wish I could just show you, its alot more fun that way.

  19. This is an awesome challenge! Good luck. I am going to go and check it out.

  20. So glad we found each others' blogs via your hubby's twitter ;)

I'm the opposite....I LOVE running outside! It's like a drug for me and makes me feel so good. Gyms, on the other hand depress me :)

  21. Great job. You are looking great by the way! When I was training for a half marathon, I found that the first three miles were always the hardest. That's my goal, when things settle down here, back out running.

  22. Good luck! Sounds like you are off to a fabulous start!

  23. Yay! I love the pictures of you while running. For the record, you look great! I could never post a photo of me after a run--I would scare my readers away. I've been a runner for many years. I started after a lifetime of being unathletic and uncoordinated. I just wanted to do well at something, and I though "this is something I can do." I started with a 30 minute walk on New Year's Day 1999 and ended up running a marathon in November of that same year. I don't do long-distance anymore, but it was such a defining moment for me to do something like that. I proved to myself I have the discipline to do anything I set my mind to.

And I KNOW you do, too! It's so fun and inspiring to see how you are challenging yourself in so many ways!

  24. Good list, I have 3 out of 5 done. I gave up diet sodas 2 months ago, I create everyday, and I read scripture daily. I have a difficult time resisting the sugar. My son asked for a treadmil because our busy schedule makes it challenging to get to the gym.

    Best wishes & blessings,
Yoli Kalkofen from deep South Texas

  25. Oh girl. Listen to this.

I used to run three miles a day. I haven't had the time for almost a year... I JUST pulled on the running gear and went out early yesterday morning. ( I swear I had not read your blog) And have been groaning all day long about my burning thighs... apparently swimming uses different muscles than running, because it's not like I haven't been working out!! For gosh sakes, it's like starting from scratch again!! Ugh... now I read this, and guess I have to quit my whining and just do it... dangit.

  26. Good job! I need to do EXACTLY what you are doing. Unfortunately, having a broken arm gave me a good excuse not to sweat... but put my work-out plan back a few weeks. So now I'm feeling gross and bummed about it.

  27. You rock Becky!!! You are doing great!!! I really wish I could run....But I can't courtesy of my back :(

Keep on truckin your doing great!!

  28. I'm in! I so need some partners to motivate me! I have no one here that I can get to workout with me so what's the next best thing? Blogging buddies! I don't run though, I so wish I did but I have never ever been a runner, for many reasons. I can walk, lol. I have been wanting to start walking again, I feel sooooo much better when I do everyday and I seriously need to lose some weight, I am still carrying around baby weight from a 7 year old and a 10 month old, so very sad. My husband really worries and gripes all the time as I DON'T take care of myself, I drink lots of pop, energy drinks ( that give me no energy ), and don't eat the best either. I want to be around for my kiddos for a long long time and at the rate I am going I seriously won't and it's scary.

I went the other day and bought me some cute new workout pants, and shoes, to get me motivated, and I will say in the last 2 weeks I have drank more water than I have in months. I used to neverrr drink water.

Anyways, I want to lost A LOT of weight but I just want to lose something by the holidays, I seriously don't care if it's 5 pounds something so I can start feeling better about myself and take a family picture!!!!! We have never had one cause I won't!!! My dad has been begging for one, even said he would pay, he just wants a stinkin picture, lol!

So anyway, I would love to join in! Thanks for the motivation and sorry for the book I just wrote ya!

    Have a Great Week!

Thanks for taking a minute to share your thoughts. I love hearing what YOU have to say:)
